Food for the Thanksgiving Celebration

Hello Minnesota River Parents!

We are in need of food donations for our Thanksgiving feast on Wednesday.  Fruits, breads, cheeses, fresh vegetables that can be cut would be wonderful to have on the menu!
Please let us know if you are willing and/or able to help out!
Thank you!

Brief News and Request for Wednesday

Dear Minnesota River Families,

We so enjoyed connecting with you at conferences!  Thank you all very much for joining us to discuss and celebrate your children.

Last week's lessons included
  • The first years learned about the three main countries on the map of North America and received differentiated math lessons.
  • The second years did work with multiple adjectives, had differentiated math lessons, and met to discuss the upcoming Vertebrate Exhibit they are creating.
  • The third years learned about linking verbs, received math lessons, and finished their learning about the seven triangles of reality
A Request for Wednesday:

We will be celebrating our gratitudes with the Clearwater River community on Wednesday afternoon, and we would like to serve a gratitude snack for our event.  If you are willing and able to send in any Fruit, Cheese, or Crackers, it would be much appreciated.

Our gratitude goes out to you all!

Best,
Erik

Minnesota River Newsletter

Hello Minnesota River Families!

Another productive week filled with many challenges and successes!  The students are busy with their work and in particular are enjoying theatrical responses to their lessons.  Please ask your student about what they are working on at school.  To help with this, on Thursdays, your student should be bringing some of their work and each of their daily work plans.  Use them to guide your conversation.

Please help your student remember their inside shoes.  This will become essential as the snow starts to fly.  Also, help them make good choices of outdoor clothing so that they are comfortable and safe at recess and the park.

Waterbottles should be sent to school with each student so they will have access to water when and as often as they like.  Please ask your student if theirs is with them at school.

Please remember that conferences start next week.

We are in need of small paper plates and napkins if you are able to donate.

Academic Lessons
First Year: Moveable Alphabet Rhyming, Differentiated Math, Polygons 1, Timeline of my Life
Second Year: Prefixes, Differentiated Math, Relationships of  Between Two Straight Lines; Landforms of a Continent
Third Year: Completing Types of Leaves, Differentiated Math, 7 Triangles of Reality, Finish Fundamental Needs Culture Cards, Guinea Pig Planning

Our Best to you All!

Minnesota River Newsletter

Hello Minnesota River Families!

This week has been another exciting and busy week in the Minnesota River classroom.  The students have been working on many different activities and are working together to make our community stronger.

A few reminders and requests:

Conferences are coming up on November 16th and 17th.  If you have not signed up, please refer to email from the Great River Office with the link and sign up today
We are doing our student celebrations on Mondays instead of Fridays.  Please plan to bring a small snack the Monday after the scheduled date of your student's celebration.  Please refer to the student celebration document here.

We are in need of more small paper plates and napkins for snack and if you have a two-cup tea service you could donate, we would like to start offering tea to our classroom guests.

The third years have been eagerly preparing for the arrival of our new classroom pet, a Guinea pig.  It will be a few more weeks before we are able to buy the pet using our pet grant, but we are in need of a large shelf-like space to house
the cage.  If you have access to or are looking to get rid of a large shelf of some kind, please let us know.  It may work for our needs!

Lastly, a small file box to keep hanging files is needed to house our reading files.

Please consider a donation of any of these items if you can!

Academic Notes:

First Year Parents, this week the children will be making a timeline of their lives.  It would be very helpful to have photographs, one per year starting as a baby (year 0).  Please send these to school with your child in a labeled envelope by Friday, November 10.  Thank you!!!

Lessons This Past Week By Level

First Years: Fall Writing, Differentiated Math Lessons, Large Hexagon Box, Plants and Animals

Second Years: Suffixes, Differentiated Math Lessons, Horizontal/Vertical/Oblique, Special Vertebrate Biology Exhibition Project (student-proposed)

Third Years: Homographs, Differentiated Math Lessons, The First Three of the 7 Triangles of Reality, Types of Leaves (a lesson in progress!)

We wish you a wonderful week!

Best,
Erik and Patrick
