Minnesota River Newsletter

Hello Minnesota River Families!

Our big news from this past week is our new room configuration.  We had a group of strong adolescent students in on Wednesday afternoon, and we totally rearranged the room.  Ask you child about it!

In recent weeks, we've been talking with the students about their jobs in the classroom and emphasizing their importance.  These jobs were created by the students at the beginning of the year, and we're circling back around to them now, halfway through.  Here is the list they came up with.  They did well; it still pertains 100%.

Student Jobs
Raise hands
Learn
Work
Respect the Materials
Respect the Plants and Animals
Follow the Guidelines
Have Fun
Have Snack

I share this with you because I thought you might be interested.  It's a kind of contract that binds us together and helps us know what behaviors are important.

Here are the academic lessons from the past two weeks:
First years: Poetry, Rhyme, Circles, US States, Types of Roots and Parts of the Year.  Second Years: Types of Poetry, Relationships of Angles, Biomes, Leaf Shapes, Fundamental Needs of Humans.
Third Years: Alliteration and Assonance, Hidden Parts of Triangles, Country Research Project, Parts of Seeds, Horizontal Study of a Fundamental Needs

In closing we want to extend a huge THANK YOU to all the parents who have contributed to our snack.  Your help literally gives us fuel to do what we do each day.  We can't thank you enough.

Best wishes for a wonderful week,
Erik and Patrick
